Ephemera Directed by Tony Williams May 2007 Tony Williams Dance Center Jamaica Plain |
The premiere of Tony Williams' new and beautiful work Ephemera was performed by members of the very new BalletRox Dance Company, Janelle Gilchrist, Elizabeth Mochizuki and Rick Vigo. This is a work of both strength and delicacy. Guitarist John Muratore and accordianist Roberto Cassan were spectacular accompanists and soloists.
This performance was followed by a lecture given by Arts historian Kay Bourne. She highlighted the dynamic historical role of African American dance in Boston. The story was danced vibrantly by the faculty of the Tony Williams Dance Center including Ilanga, general manager, accompanied by percussionist Salim, and the tap talent of Sybill Huggins. Two guest swing dancers, Amy Lawrence and Muyi Ogunnika also performed beautifullly. |

Urban Nutcracker seventh annual Directed by Tony Williams December 7-16, 2007 John Hancock Hall Boston |
The Tony Williams' Urban Nutcracker offers a fresh approach to a holiday dance classic. It has an inner city edge with the story being set in contemporary Boston while following the story line of E.T.A. Hoffman's 19th century fairy tale. It fuses ballet, swing, hip hop, and urban tap with the classical score of Tchaikovsky and the pulsating beat of Duke Ellington. This fresh approach to a holiday classic will keep your family coming back year after year! |
